5 March 2012 - Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

I've had Natalie Imbruglia's Left of the Middle CD since it came out in 1998. To this day though, the only song I can name by her is Torn. I suppose I should give the whole record another spin. If the other songs are even half as good as this one I imagine it would be a pretty good listen.

  1. Well...maybe...you know Torn was a cover, right? (Originally by Ednaswap). And I'm always hesitant when an artists biggest hit is them singing someone else's song...

  2. I was not aware that it was a cover. I am now. Natalie softened up an awful lot. And having said that, there are a lot of examples where songs are made more popular by artists covering them. I, for one, love covers, so I am not as offended or skeptical.

  3. The funny thing is I actually knew that it was a cover and completely forgot when I wrote this up. Thanks for reminding me.

It's funny how covers or even songs written by other artists for well established songwriters go. I just learned that You and Tequila by Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter was written by the wonderful Matraca Berg and Deana Carter (KC and GP are great songwriters on their own). One of my favorite songwriters is Mary Chapin Carter and my favorite song "by her" and her biggest hit Passionate Kisses was actually a Lucinda Williams song (another killer songwriter).
