30 July 2018 - Hoodoo Gurus - Leilani | Game Theory - Leilani

True story - I named my cat after these songs.

My name is Leilani.

The Hoodoo Gurus were a much bigger deal in Australia than they were in the US, but they still capture the 1980's in power-pop perfection.

So, Leilani isn't exactly a common name. So, when Scott Miller wrote a song called Leilani for the 1988 Game Theory album Two Steps From The Middle Ages... well, I'll let him tell you, courtesy of the liner notes of Game Theory's compilation album Tinker To Evers To Chance:
I remember about when this was mastered someone told me there was a Hoodoo Gurus song called "Leilani" and I was petrified I'd somehow unconsciously stolen someone's whole song. You never know when you write a melody if it's not really some pre-existing tune that's just far enough in the back of your mind you don't know if you wrote it or not.
He need not have worried. While the songs share a title and power-pop perfection, they are completely different songs.  But they're both fantastic.
